anime review for tokyo ghoul wallpaper

I finally mustered up enough courage to write something on the ever loved Tokyo Ghoul. It scares me to write on it because it an anime loved by many and I do not want to offend anyone. I also understand that just a review isn't ever gonna be enough for Tokyo Ghoul.

If you are not familiar with or ever heard of Tokyo Ghoul (that would be ridiculous), it is a dark fantasy manga turned into anime and one of my all-time favourite things. I am typically not really into gory or crime-related entertainment, but I knew Tokyo Ghoul was so captivating to me for a reason. It's a story about humans and ghouls, human-like beings who feed on humans to survive, trying to overcome one another to eventually find peace and balance in their existence. There are several things to be learned from this story which is what I will dive into in this post.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an in-depth review and basically skims over the lead character.

anime review for tokyo ghoul kaneki ken

The main character Ken Kaneki starts out a meek, shy and defenceless college student who’s world gets turned upside down when he gets involved in an accident. This accident involving a female ghoul winds up with him being transplanted with her organs making him into a half human-half ghoul. This leaves Kaneki severely distraught and lost as to how to cope with this new existence given his current nature.

As the story progresses, Kaneki continues to suffer and lose people who are close to him that he cares about. His whole life has been like this as he is left powerless and forced to sit on the sidelines watching. At one point Kaneki is forced to endure so much pain and torture he virtually breaks and has no choice but to examine his life. He realizes all of the pain and suffering he’s experienced has actually been caused by him, by his own lack of ability. The popular phrase used is “all of the detriment in this world stems from a lack of individual ability.”

Kaneki finally realizes he is responsible for losing those close to him, for letting himself endure so much pain and for letting himself be so helpless. It is in this moment he finally breaks free and embraces his new ghoul power, becoming one of the most powerful ghouls of all. Watching this happen has forever impacted me. I even teared up quite a bit. Seeing his transition from being a meek and defenceless kid into a powerful, capable and worthy being was amazing to me. It is something I am sure most people closely related through their own pain and what they tried to overcome it.

As the series progresses, Kaneki is forced again and again into suffering. While temporarily he is forced a step back, he never lingers long. He always emerges more determined, stronger, more capable and more confident in who he is. He never lets anything get the best of him. He learns to embrace and utilize his suffering. The more pain he endures, the stronger he gets. He grows to carry the weight of the world. He sacrifices everything to become the most powerful in order to protect those he cares about. He lets nothing get in his way.

I knew I loved this series for a reason. It was in my energy field to be beneficial. To me, nothing is more inspiring or motivating than watching someone so weak grow into someone so strong. Someone that has endured terrible pain and suffering, only to turn around and utilize it to his highest good. Ken Kaneki is and will always be my motivation.

We get to learn a lot from this anime.

-never give up-

To continue moving forward is to continue to progress, no matter how big or small. You must find it within yourself to always give your best, no matter your current level of capability. To give up is to surrender and admit defeat. To give up is to lose everything you ever have, can or will care about. You cannot let this happen at any cost.

-your pain is your power-

No matter what you go through, you can either let it destroy you or transform you. Those who chose to lie in misery will never overcome. No one is born strong, you must become strong. You must use your suffering, transform the pain and muster the motivation to overcome yourself, emerging better than you once were.

-find balance-

Just as humans and ghouls learned to embrace one another and live cooperatively, we as humans must do the same. We must help one another, not fight each other in order to get to a true place of unity and coexistence. We are all one.
