STORY

Among all of the slice of life anime I've watched, the story of Silver Spoon is very unique and interesting. I have never seen an anime about farming and agriculture so while watching the anime I was learning some agriculture terms together with our main character Hachiken who is a city boy and has never experienced any farming. Watching the anime, I thought this story will be about Hachiken learning stuff about Agriculture with a lot of comedy. But no! I like how the anime still reminds us or doesn't turn away to its sad or dramatic side of the story. I swear even if the cover of the anime looks cute and all with a bunch of cute animals, the anime will make you cry because of a piglet named "pork bowl". I swear the anime is slowly wanted me to be vegetarian, because of one pig's death. Every episode is a roller coaster ride, from one episode everything is all fun with our main character making pizza happily to Hachiken having a dilemma about learning about the harsh reality about a ranch who has a lot of debts.

There is nothing that I hate about the story. Everything was well planned, it has a mix of comedy and drama that mixes well with the tone shift. The story is realistic, relatable, and educational. Every episode from the first season to the next was a fun ride. Hiromu Arakawa (the same author of Full Metal Alchemist) did another manga that has an interesting and enjoyable story.

ANIMATION & ART
——————————

Silver Spoon Anime Series Review gif

Silver Spoon's animation was good and bad at the same time. Why? Let me tell you my reasons. Firstly the animation was good, the animation doesn't lack anything or seems flat or low budget, so everything was okay. But in some scenes especially when there is a really important conversation, the characters talking seems like there is no movement at all. But I'm not complaining since I really didn't notice with the badly animated scenes because at times I'm really fixated to the dialogue(I'm watching the English sub). So everything was a minor problem, and the bad animation didn't disturb me at all. And A-1 Pictures did a good job.

Now let's talk about art. Well, to be honest, I really have nothing to say aside that Silver Spoon has a slightly similar art style to Full Metal Alchemist, obviously since it is from the same author. But Silver Spoon has more realistic designs compared to Full Metal Alchemist. So the art style in Silver Spoon is very simple, but I like it. Well since, Simplicity is beauty.

Well, I'm sorry this portion seems a bit too short. Since there was not really a scene that stood out to me because of great animation, or because of bad animation. So the animation in this anime fine and the art style was good too.

CHARACTERS
——————————

Silver Spoon has a lot of characters that are all unique in their own way. Like Keiji who is the idiot of the bunch and he misunderstands a lot which brings comedy to show. Ayame, even she was only introduced in season 2 she really stood out to me especially her laugh. And Hachiken's brother Shingo is a character I enjoy watching throughout the show, because of his cool introduction and how he is a good brother in his own way towards Hachiken. But I will only be talking about three characters which really stood out to me the most.

Silver Spoon Anime Series Review hachiken

First, we have Yuugo Hachiken, the main character of the show. He is smart and hardworking and is known for being the boy who says no anything. The main problem of Hachiken throughout the show is figuring what he wants to do since he doesn't have a dream. He studied all his life, but what he wants to do next after he finishes school is a complete mystery to him. And that's what makes Hachiken a great character as we watch his journey of the reality of life and finding his dream.

Silver Spoon Anime Series Review aki mikage

Next is Aki Mikage, the love interest of the main character or the female lead I may say. From the start of the story when I saw Aki I wasn't interested in her character. All I thought of her as being the love interest and that's it. There were no traits that stood out to me. It was until season 2 came and slowly the story makes Aki interesting. She received great development throughout the show. She really amazes me at the end and it made me change my mind of what I thought about her character in season 1.

Silver Spoon Anime Series Review ichiro komaba

Last but not least is Ichiro Komaba, Hachiken's And Aki's classmate, and also a childhood friend of Aki as well. I honestly like his character in season 1 and even more in season 2! Komaba is a very interesting character, but I can't believe he broke my heart. Like seriously he is one of the reasons I cried in the show. Komaba is very hardworking and seems to never get tired from work and even in his baseball practice. Though he may not appear too special in season one (but I still like his character), season 2 changed my perspective of him.

Silver Spoon is an anime with a good heart.
