The story begins in nineteenth-century Britain where a youthful aristo Jonathan Joestar has secured hostility with Dio Brando, a low-conceived kid whom Jonathan's dad took under himself when Dio's dad kicked the bucket. Discontent along with his station throughout everyday life, Dio's fathomless drive to rule over all inevitably drives him to chase the extraordinary forces of an old Aztec stone cover inside the Joestars' ownership – a curio which will perpetually change the fate of Dio and Jonathan for ages to return. After fifty years, in 1938 NY City, Jonathan's grandson Joseph Joestar proceeds with his granddad's crucial experts the abilities to devastate the stone cover and its makers, the Pillar men, who are prepared to end the mankind.
This is the anime I've watched in the longest duration. I mean, I usually breeze through anime series in a day or two, but with 3 seasons on Netflix (4 parts in total) consisting of 113 episodes of at least 20 minutes each, and with the quarantine being over, I spent more than a couple of weeks to finish it all. That being said, I still haven't watched the Golden Wind part of this series yet. Now that was a lengthy intro. Off to the actual review.
This anime is also heartbreaking in a lot of ways. I don't want to spoil you so I won't say anything else. Let's just say there's a whole lotta drama to the first 2 seasons of this. The fight scenes are also genius! There was much thought put into it and although it comes off as a "manly" anime, you could tell that there is a lot of psychological war in between and everything is not really black and white.
And the suspense? Don't get me started! It can be compared to a local "telenovela" or tv drama. Some nights when it's just me who's left awake watching it, I would scream in vain because of what happened in the show or when I'm super psyched about what's going to happen. As if the characters can hear me!
The Diamond is Unbreakable season/arc is more laid back in terms of drama. There's now a lot of comedy woven into it, too. And this is where I realized how cool Jotaro is. Yes, only in this arc. I love his maturity and calmness.
The artwork is brilliant. It would be a shame if I don't talk about that. The art style changes a bit in every season to show the progression of time because the whole series starts from the 19th century to the early 90s.
Would I recommend it?
That's a definite and automatic yes. It may seem weird or unattractive at first, but please give it a chance and you'll surely love it like I have! I wouldn't give it 5 stars if I thought it didn't have the chance to compete with the other anime out there!
As a bonus, you'd be happy to know that the voice actors of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler, Sinbad, Sho of Psychopass, Eren of Attack on Titan, Todoroki of BNHA, Meliodas of Seven Deadly Sins, Ayato of Tokyo Ghoul, Shinsuke of Gintama, Gin of Food Wars, Hotohori of Fushigi Yuugi, Seishiro of Starmyu and Kotetsu of Touken Ranbu are here!
