SYNOPSIS
——————————
Haruka Nanase has an affection for water and energy for swimming. In grade school, he contended in and won a relay race with his three companions Rin Matsuoka, Nagisa Hazuki, and Makoto Tachibana. In the wake of guaranteeing triumph at the competition, the four companions headed out in their own direction. A long time later, they rejoin as high schoolers; in any case, Rin couldn't think less about coming back to the manner in which things used to be. In addition to the fact that he attends an alternate school, however, the sole thing essential to him is demonstrating that he is a superior swimmer than Haruka.
After the severe get-together, Haruka, Nagisa, and Makoto choose to shape the Iwatobi Secondary School Swim Club, however, they will require a fourth part in the event that they want to partake in the up and coming competition. The one to go along with them (after much bartering) Rei Ryuugazaki, a previous individual from the track group enlisted by Nagisa joins as the fourth part. As an opportunity to go after moves close, the four build up a nearby bond while preparing seriously to prove to be the best and settle things among Haruka and Rin for the last time.
When I first read the synopsis before I watched the anime, I was absolutely drawn towards it. When anyone is in the water, it's like a whole new world that opens up to you. You don't really care about racing or other things, really the only thing swimmers really care about is making friends, and having fun in the water and that's exactly what this anime shows us, is that no matter how one cares about winning you will always have friends by your side to have fun with.
Speaking of characters, this show brings many to our table. From the very beginning, we get to see our characters for who they truly are. We get to see them as children, how they began to be friends, and even what got Nanase to love swimming. It wasn't about winning or losing, it was just about friends, hanging out in the water. Yes, they may have their own ups and downs, but in the end, it was their bond that lasted them through everything.
This is a Slice Of Life, Action, and Comedy anime. I started in the first episode and ended up binge-watching till the last. This anime will always make you laugh even when it's not really funny, but the way they act just makes you want to. The anime talks about swimming in a way that is way beyond for it to be just known as a sport. It actually can be the way of living and their driving force. It can develop great bonds for friends and family, but can also damage relationships. That's another thing I just love about this anime, is that it can show you the bad things in life as well as the good things.
The structure and shade of the anime and furthermore the characters themselves mix in and go very well together. Every time, it just amazes me because it completely matches the tone, mood, and even the feeling of the anime. The animation must be, to me, one of the strongest suits for the show. The series only lasts about 25 episodes with both seasons. I believe it should have gone longer, but with what I heard, there might be a season three. It's not confirmed (I don't think it is) but if it does, I know I'll have my blanket and bed ready to just watch the new season because Free is on my top 3 Slice Of Life animes, and it shall always be there.
Another thing is even though the characters and everything else was great, I think some characters deserve more time in the water.
*coughs* Nanase
This anime was the best comedy I have seen in a long time. Every time I see it, it just makes me smile more and more. It reminds me of who I really am in the real world, and I thank the show for it.
